Sridhar Vembu (54), the Zoho founder and CEO, dedicated the Padma Shri award he received to his employees and extended family.

“It is a huge honour, and I feel humbled,” Vembu, who lives in Mathalamparai village near Tenkasi, said in a tweet. I dedicate this to our staff, as well as my extended family, for their perseverance in the face of adversity. I’d like to express my gratitude to all of my friends and well-wishers for their messages. “It is because of your love that I am able to continue (sic).”

Vembu earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from IIT-Madras and his doctorate in electrical engineering from Princeton University. In 1996, the billionaire, who comes from a farming family in Thanjavur, co-founded AdventNet. Later, he founded Zoho Corp, which now has offices in a number of countries.

Vembu relocated to Mathalamparai village in 2019, where he runs the Zoho school and a division of his business dedicated to developing professional students. “Investing in people is a critical component of our R&D advantage. We have a rigorous hiring and training programme for high school students.

This curriculum is known as Zoho Schools of Learning. This software has generated over 15% of our engineers. The program is beneficial not only to our business but also to the communities in which we live,” according to the Zoho website.
