Deepika Padukone and Kangana Ranaut share an old video: Teaching feminism to Bullywood in my early twenties

Kangana Ranaut is one of the few Bollywood stars who has been outspoken about her personal beliefs and opinions. Kangana Ranaut’s Dhaakad star has never shied away from speaking out on social issues, and she has expressed her thoughts on feminism and the representation of women on screen in Bollywood since the beginning of her career. The Dhaakad actress recently posted a video clip from Aamir Khan’s 2014 show Satyamev Jayate, in which she appears alongside Deepika Padukone and Parineeti Chopra. Kangana talks about the misrepresentation of women on screen in the video.

Kangana took to Twitter to retweet a video from a netizen from an episode of Aamir’s show from 2014. Kangana Ranaut is seen in the video debating how cinema affects society. She is seen citing William Shakespeare as an example of a writer who created dark stories and characters with a positive influence. Kangana Ranaut is seen describing how women in Indian films enjoy being mocked by men. She said that women are referred to as “tandoori chicken” and that this is a “shameful” depiction of women in Indian cinema.

Later in the clip, Aamir asks Deepika for her thoughts, and the Padmaavat actress is heard saying that she had heard that cinema has a major influence on society, but she had “never taken it seriously” before they were discussing it. She said that she will be more cautious in the future. “Watch this, it is many years ago in my early twenties teaching feminism to Bollywood, listen to you all upcoming libra feminists,!” Kangana wrote in response to the post.
