Former assistant director Rishikesh Pawar was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Tuesday in connection with the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Pawar had been on the run since the beginning of the month.

Rishikesh Pawar’s anticipatory bail application in the Sushant Singh Rajpur narcotics case, which is being investigated by the NCB, was denied last month by the Mumbai sessions court.

NCB officials have been on the lookout for Rishikesh Pawar since January 8, after he was questioned by the agency in September last year when several people connected to the actor were questioned. The role of Pawar in supplying drugs to the late Sushant Singh Rajput has been revealed.

Pawar is accused of obtaining drugs and supplying them to Sushant Singh Rajput for monetary gain. Dipesh Sawant, a member of Sushant’s team, identified Pawar as one of the people who supplied the actor with drugs.

Sawant told NCB officials that Pawar provided drugs to Sushant in May, and that the actor committed suicide in June.

NCB arrested Sawant for delivering drugs to Sushant on the orders of actor Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik, who were also detained.

Sawant said in his statement that it was Pawar who delivered drugs to the late actor before he started working for him, and that Pawar’s home was raided by NCB in September last year.

Pawar had first sought anticipatory bail in the NCB case from a Mumbai sessions court, and then went to the Bombay High Court. The Bombay High Court instructed him to take the case to the sessions court, where it was previously denied last month.

After Pawar’s anticipatory bail application was denied, NCB officials went to his Chembur home, only to discover that he had fled.

“Rishikesh Pawar is an accused named in the C.R. no 16/20,” NCB Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede said at the time. He is Sushant Singh Rajput’s dream project’s Assistant Director. Various evidences clearly show that Rishikesh Pawar played a role in supplying drugs to the late actor Mr. Sushant Singh Rajput for a monetary consideration.”

“One laptop was confiscated during a search at his home, from which incriminating data was recovered,” he said. In this case, the NCB provided notices under section 67 of the NDPS Act, 1985, requesting further investigation. Several times, he was unable to contact the NCB office. He was discovered at his Chembur home on Tuesday and taken to the NCB office for questioning in the case.”

Pawar will appear in court on Wednesday, according to NCB officials.
