In a recent interview, Gil Junger, the director of 10 Things I Hate About You, reminisced about Julia Stiles and Joseph Gordon-Levitt secretly falling in love while filming the beloved film.
Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger had legendary on-screen chemistry in the 1999 teen classic 10 Things I Hate About You, but it was a different co-star that she adored in real life.
Gil Junger, the director, was a recent guest on the YouTube chat show Mirá a Quién Encontré (Look Who I Found). During the interview, he spoke about Julia and Joseph Gordon-Levitt having deep feelings for each other throughout the shoot, which led to them dating for a short time.
Gil said it only took Julia a single take to film the scene in which Julia’s character, Kat, reads her “10 Things” poem during class, and that the director was “crying so hard” by the end of her performance.
He remembered, “That was probably one of the most moving performances I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot.” “It had already destroyed me. It was so fragile, and it was so raw, and it was so real. ‘Where did that come from?’ I also asked her. ‘I was just thinking about,’ she said, referring to the guy she was profoundly in love with at the time.”
Despite rumors that Julia and Heath were a real-life couple, Gil insisted that this wasn’t the case by sharing about the object of her affection, “It wasn’t me, but it wasn’t Heath either,” she said.
When the interviewer pressed Gil to confirm that the Save the Last Dance star didn’t have feelings for Heath, he said it was just a rumour. “She went out with Joseph Gordon-Levitt for a minute or ten,” he said. “It was cool that they were very, very drawn to each other.”
The filmmaker agreed after the reporter pointed out that Julia and Joe, who are now both 40, don’t share many scenes in the film. “Isn’t that true? Isn’t it amusing? She’s professing her love for Heath, and she’s also in love with the man who’s waiting in his trailer for the next scene to be shot “Gil was awestruck. “Yeah, but it was lovely to see how much they loved each other.”
Most fans are likely to have forgotten about this relationship, and neither star has responded to Gil’s interview. However, Julia discussed the relationship in a 2001 Rolling Stone profile, stating that she and Joe were still staying on the same floor of their Columbia University dorm at the time, despite the fact that the sparks had died out by then.
The 3rd Rock From the Sun alum was referred to as the star’s “former boyfriend” by the Rolling Stone blogger, and Julia herself explained, “We’re friends.” “We say hello to each other,” the actress said.
Any romantic feelings are a thing of the past. In September 2017, Julia married Preston J. Cook, and the couple welcomed their son Strummer the following month. Meanwhile, Joe married Tasha McCauley in December 2014, and the couple has two sons together.
But who else wants to re-watch 10 Things right now to see if there are any hints about the secret pairing?
